Justice Mohammed Umar dismissed the adjournment application, which was filed by Sowore’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar. The judge ordered the activist to begin his defence on 5 June, adding that all further hearings would proceed day-to-day until the case is concluded.

Sowore is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations that he made false claims against President Bola Tinubu. Prosecutors say Sowore referred to the President as “a criminal” in posts shared on his X and Facebook accounts.

The court has insisted on adhering to the schedule set by Justice Umar, denying any delay to the proceedings.
