The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has ratified the appointment of Bala Mohammed as acting national chairman.

The decision was taken during the party’s 11th NEC meeting held on Saturday in Abuja, following the resignation of the former National Chairman, Dr Ajuji Ahmed.

The NEC also approved the results of primary elections conducted across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections. Additionally, the committee ratified the appointment of acting state chairmen for Ogun, Delta, Nasarawa, and Cross River states as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structures.

Party Remains Resilient Despite Challenges

In his welcome address, the NNPP National Secretary, Dipo Olayoku, stated that the meeting marked the culmination of the party’s preparations for the 2027 polls. He explained that the electoral process had commenced from the ward, local government, and state levels, where members elected candidates to fly the NNPP flag.

Mr Olayoku recalled that the party had ratified its congress in December 2025, noting that despite various challenges, the NNPP had remained resilient and focused. He emphasised that the meeting was convened in compliance with relevant provisions of the Electoral Act to ratify primary election outcomes nationwide.

According to him, the party’s performance in the 2023 general elections had elevated its profile, resulting in the election of its first governor and federal lawmakers. He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its commitment to democratic principles and expressed confidence in its leadership and capacity.

The NNPP adopted the consensus method for its primaries, and Mr Olayoku thanked state chairmen, executives, and members for their sacrifices and dedication. He acknowledged that some elected officials had left the party through political realignments but urged remaining members to remain steadfast and focused on improving future electoral outcomes.
