Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has issued a stern warning that all non-performing contracts will be terminated, as his administration moves to enforce accountability among contractors.

Speaking during a media briefing on Saturday in Uyo, the governor expressed deep concern that some contractors handling state-funded projects lacked patriotism and proactivity.

He singled out the contractors responsible for the Tabernacle Road in Uyo and the Midim Atan-Etim Ekpo Road in Essien Udim Local Government Area, stating that they had failed to meet expectations.

The Tabernacle Road project, Mr Eno noted, was re-awarded in February 2024, yet it remained incomplete despite government disbursement of mobilisation funds.

Over 1,300km of Roads Constructed in Three Years

The governor highlighted that his administration has built more than 1,300 kilometres of roads and approximately 40 bridges over the past three years.

Completed projects include the 14.3km Ikot Ubo-Odot Road in Nsit Ubium/Nsit Atai and the internal roads at the Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.

Mr Eno also confirmed that several projects inherited from his predecessor have been finished, among them the Ikot Esu-Otomo-Azumini Road in Ika, Pepsi Junction-Ukpom-Abak Road, and the Ikot Ekaide and Ikot Okoro Bridges.

“We are currently implementing different strategic road projects across the state, including the dualisation of Ring Road III and the reconstruction of Ikot Akpadem-Iko Road with bridges,” he added.
