The Social Democratic Party has produced its governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in Adamawa State, with delegates unanimously endorsing Christopher Nathaniel as the party’s flag bearer.
Nathaniel emerged after being affirmed as the sole aspirant on the party’s platform during a delegates’ congress held on Thursday in Yola.
Delegates from the 21 local government areas of the state gathered at Duragi Hotels, Yola, where they endorsed his candidature under the supervision of national officials of the party.
The exercise was led by the SDP National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Ayenigba, who said the process complied with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
Nathaniel’s candidature was adopted through a voice vote after a motion moved by Hassan Laido from Yola South Local Government Area and seconded by Mrs Helen from Numan Local Government Area.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Nathaniel thanked the delegates and national officers for conducting what he described as a transparent process.
He pledged to provide responsive and responsible leadership if elected governor in 2027.
“No pensioner will be owed a dime of outstanding gratuity within the first six months of my administration. I will ensure that all backlog of pension arrears are fully settled,” he said.
Nathaniel, who is the Director of Greenville LNG, also promised to pursue educational reforms, agricultural transformation and youth empowerment programmes across the state.
He further said his administration would promote the use of gas as an alternative to Premium Motor Spirit to reduce transportation costs and ease the burden on residents.
The state chairman of the SDP, Paul Ahundana, commended delegates for their orderly conduct and praised national officers for ensuring a smooth and credible exercise.
According to him, the successful affirmation has positioned the party for a strong outing in the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.
