Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has began membership drive with an electronic registration targeting no fewer than 4 million new members.

The process geared towards strengthening PDP’s visibility and admissibility ahead of the general elections,  entails that both old and new members are registered electronically across the 244 council wards of the 23 local government areas to guage political acceptability.

Speaking at the one day train the trainers exercise on e-membership registration held at Dankeni hotels, Sokoto, former State PDP secretary, Hon. KAbiru Aliyu divulged that they are targeting no fewer than 20,000 new members from each of the 244 council wards in the state.

Hon. Kabiru further emphasized that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the only political party in Nigeria that have genuine greatness blueprint for the country.

“We must commend the state and national leadership of the party for this bold initiative to register new members nationwide.

“And it is a critical exercise that will significantly boost the party’s membership strength and enhance its chances in the 2027 general elections,” he added.

Lending his voice to the development,  the Co-Chairperson of the committee overseeing the exercise, Hajiya Zainab Dogon‑Daji, said the training programme was designed to equip participants with the technical knowledge required to effectively conduct the electronic registration process.

Hajiya Dogon-Daji further hinted that the training would be replicated at the ward level to ensure that officials across Sokoto state are adequately prepared to manage the digital exercise.

While noting that the electronic registration platform would enhance transparency, improve data management, ensure accurate and verifiable membership register, Hajiya Dogon appealed to all and sundry to come out enmass for the exercise.

Earlier in his remarks, Hon. Dahiru Yusuf Yabo, a former governorship candidate under the platform of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and  Commissioner for Water Resources during the administration of former governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal called on party members and residents to participate actively in the exercise.

“We should all be patriotic and take part in this crucial exercise to avoid disenfranchisement in the 2027 general elections,” Yabo said.

Collaborating the call, another stakeholder, Hayatu Tafiya, also urged residents of Sokoto state to turn out in large numbers to register, stressing that massive participation would further strengthen the PDP’s political structure in the state.

Giving reasons why no other party other than the PDP meant well for Nigeria and Nigerians, a stakeholder, Ibrahim Mahaji Gusau said the failure of APC since it took over power in 2015 has been very catastrophic for the nation.

According to him, the 16 years rule of PDP saw Nigeria making steady progress in all front only to be reversed abysmally by the misgovernance of the APC.

“Just imagine the huge sum of money this APC government has been making from subsidy removal, tax and others, yet no meaningful complementary project. Worsening insecurity is the order of the day. Increased poverty becomes our national anthem now. And yet the government is still borrowing money to be stolen by those in government.

“And funny enough, in Sokoto, some of the projects they claimed to be executing have no any positive impact on the lives of ordinary citizens”, Ibrahimm Gusau interred.
