McEnies Global Communications is proud to play a pivotal role in the Weather and Climate Information Services for Resilience (WISER) Health project, a groundbreaking initiative led by the UK Met Office, NiMet, in partnership with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Rockefeller Foundation.

This project aims to enhance the quality, accessibility, and use of weather and climate forecasts and warnings by Nigeria’s health sector to better address climate-sensitive health challenges.

Aligned with Nigeria’s third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), which calls for delivering an integrated climate, health, and environmental early warning system across at least 18 states by 2030, McEnies works closely with key government agencies, including the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the Federal Ministry of Health, and the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA). Together, they drive forward a national vision of climate-resilient health systems informed by timely, actionable data.

Dr. Omolaraeni Olaosebikan, CEO of McEnies Global Communications, is leading efforts to make meteorological data more usable for health-sector decision-makers.

Through detailed community surveys in various Nigerian states and strong collaboration with NiMet and other stakeholders, McEnies crafts strategies that prioritize the needs of vulnerable populations across rural, urban, coastal, and informal communities.

McEnies plays an active role in facilitating cross-sectoral workshops and community-level surveys, ensuring early warning services are people-led, inclusive, and tailored to local realities.

This approach complements the broader multi-agency collaboration driving Nigeria’s National Early Warning Services for Health (WISER) workshop and ongoing initiatives.

As climate change intensifies health risks such as heat stress and vector-borne diseases, the WISER Health project seeks to make climate information truly usable for health agencies, ensuring timely, equitable, and locally relevant responses to emerging challenges.

The project benefits from partnerships with global experts from the UK Government, the Rockefeller Foundation, the World Bank, and the World Health Organization, among others.

“Climate information holds untapped potential to transform health outcomes,” said Dr. Omolaraeni Olaosebikan.

“Our work with WISER Health is about making this data truly usable for health agencies, ensuring timely, equitable, and locally relevant responses. This effort is part of a larger national commitment to building climate-resilient health systems through partnership and innovation.”

This initiative builds on McEnies Global Communications’ proven track record from 2023, when the company successfully partnered with the UK Met Office and FCDO to develop and implement strategic communications protocols designed to mitigate flooding risks across Nigeria’s most vulnerable communities.

That project enhanced public awareness and improved coordination among key disaster management agencies, demonstrating the power of targeted, data-driven communication to save lives and protect livelihoods.

Leveraging the insights and relationships established through that work, McEnies is now expanding its focus to integrate climate information with health sector planning, addressing emerging threats like heat stress and vector-borne diseases with the same commitment to impact and inclusivity.

McEnies remains committed to leveraging innovative communication solutions that foster resilience and sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond.
