President Bola Tinubu has mandated a thorough investigation into the appalling murder of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in the Chiranci community of Kano State.
In a statement released on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President condemned the attack, labelling it as barbaric, and extended his condolences to the grieving family.
“The President denounced the act as barbaric and expressed his sympathies to the bereaved family in light of this tragedy,” the statement read.
Tinubu also praised the police for their prompt arrest of the primary suspects and instructed security agencies to ensure a thorough prosecution.
“The President commended the police for the swift apprehension of the main suspects and ordered a comprehensive investigation and diligent prosecution of those involved,” the statement continued.
He reassured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasising that such acts of violence would not be tolerated.
PUNCH Online previously reported that seven individuals, including a 35-year-old woman and her six children, were murdered on Saturday during a violent attack at Dorayi Chiranci Quarters in Kano.
The victims, identified as Fatima Abubakar and her children, were assaulted at their home by suspected criminals who reportedly broke in and inflicted fatal injuries with dangerous weapons.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, stated that the command received a distress call at approximately 12:10 p.m. on January 17, reporting the attack on the household of one Haruna Bashir.
He noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, promptly dispatched a team of officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani.
According to the police, the victims were transported to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical staff confirmed their deaths.
As investigations continue, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa stated that three primary suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the housewife and her six children.
The arrests were made following intelligence-led operations conducted between the night of January 17 and the early hours of Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Kiyawa reported that the arrests were made on the orders of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and under the supervision of Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
“The Kano State Police Command, utilising intelligence-led policing, has successfully apprehended three primary suspects responsible for the horrific murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters,” Kiyawa stated.
