The recently conducted local government elections in the federal capital territory clearly showed the mood and the way forward for Nigeria’s political developement.
Inspite of the general apathy, protest votes and electoral manipulations, it is crystal clear that the road back to power of the main opposition party in Nigeria PDP, was beyond the obvious.
The helpless situation of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC across the length and breath of the seat of government was an indicator that the die is cast for APC in Nigeria.
The quitude that characterised the expected victory of the main opposition party in Nigeria was an assurance that the bad old days is giving way to the new good days.
In view of the graveyard reactions from the ruling APC and it’s stakeholders that went into the election decapitated, dilapidated and crises ridden, that went beyond redemption with no end in sight will no doubt be replicated not only in the forthcoming convention if it is going to hold, but the 2023 general elections.
According to former Nigeria’s Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, that ‘the FCT elections was going to be a referendum’ was a clear manifestation of his political statement made with dexterity, legendary experience.
Dr Ayu, the PDP National chairman assured party faithfuls that his party will not leave even one area council for the ruling APC.
His statement was not far from the truth as even were APC won the controversial chairmanship seat like Abaji, Kuje, and Gwagwalada, PDP had majority of the councillors, meaning they will form the legislative arm of the six area councils and those won by APC chairmen.
Even though,this has to do with the voting pattern of indigenous FCT, it is no longer modest and smack of electoral fraud when viewed extensively.
According to Comrade Dino Melaye, Governor Wike and Makinde, the reactionary tendencies had to do with the mood of the country and ordinary Nigerians,what the main opposition needed now is to take advantage and learn from the mistakes, so as not to disappoint the Nigerian electorates.
The least expectations was at the seat of government, Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC, were the ruling party APC was beaten to stupor, with a wide margin that left the party gasping for breath.
The victory of Dakka Maikalangu had become a symbol of total victory for PDP in the march 2023 Presidential election ,as the two ministers, governor’s that monitored the election and other stakeholders are still leaking their wounds of defeat that may not fade easily before the 2023.
The Presidential spokesmen, had deliberately shied from making comments and writing articles on the failure of APC in a local council elections, were the party had held forth in the last six years.
This positive developement was a clear indicator that in the midst of level playing ground and political tolerance, most of the local government and states in Nigeria will be won by the main opposition party, PDP .
The first party assignment carried out by Dr Iyorchia Ayu led PDP had showed his words and actions in his determination to wrest power from shylock leaders, who had thrown Nigeria into a political doldrum that had metamorphosed to economic quagmire.
During his reception in Makurdi, he assured the PDP members that by March 2023 , alot of drama will play out in Nigeria that will lead to more swell in the main opposition party, saying playing politics out of government is more desirable.
Former Jigawa state Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido on different fora said Nigeria will see the worst, if PDP was denied seamless leadership in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
According to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, PDP Presidential hopeful , he lamented that since he was born about seven decades ago, what is happening in Nigeria today smack of the expectations of average Nigerians.
Pundits said whether zoned to the
South, North, PDP is already the new bride due for solemnization ceremony politically in 2023.
For the easy going and media shy third time Senator representing PDP in the FCT, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda the show of prowess and power is borne of orientation, reorientation , empowerment, provision of basic social amenities and modest social security across board devoid of any coloration.
The FCT elections had come and gone, analyst believed it was a win- win between the ruling APC and main opposition party PDP , but the real winners who are the masses knows what they wanted and voted at the seat of government.
According to PDP National Chairman, we will still contest the outcome in court, that means there is more to the victory of the ruling party in the three local government areas won by the APC.
Only time shall tell, for PDP, it was a good outing , testament of the forthcoming 2023 general elections with the expectations that the electoral act will be signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
