A Kaduna State Governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdulmalik Mohammed Durungwa has appealed to Governor Nasir Ahmed el-Rufai to used the same logic in supporting the Presidency to be zoned to Southern Nigeria in 2023, for the Governorship to shift to Southern Kaduna for fairness and equity.
Dr Durungwa stated this on Monday at a parley with Southern Kaduna Journalists Forum in Kaduna to formally declare his aspiration for the number one seat of the State.
According to him Nasir el-Rufai recently supported a Southern Presidency candidate while appealing the Governor to apply same in his home State by supporting a Southern Kaduna candidate.
He noted that whoever emerged from the zone he’s ready to support him irrespective of the candidate as long as he’s from the Southern Kaduna region.
Durunguwa who is a pioneer Executive Secretary of Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency said he remains one of the best leading aspirant with the most formidable structure in the contest.
” I have consulted with any person in Kaduna and in Nigeria that have interest that I am coming out to contest for the Governorship seat of the State come 2023, stressing I have no reason to doubt my conviction that the Load my Southern Kaduna people want me to carry I will do that with my all my strength and myth,” he vowed
While debunking the erroneous notion initially held by Governor Nasir el-Rufai that the governorship election can be won without votes from Southern Kaduna, he argued using statistics from previous elections to proof that the region is central for any candidate who want to win election.
He maintained that all the previous Governors in the State won their election with the support of the Southern Kaduna votes.
He reiterated that no Governorship candidate in the State can win election without the support of the Southern Kaduna region.
” Without the votes of the Southern Kaduna region APC would have lost election in the State,” he stated.
The Gubernatorial hopeful was of the view that this is the best time for Southern Kaduna to make a good outing and produce the next governor, having the northern part held power for almost 3 decades since 1999.
” The Southern Kaduna region has never had it as prospective as this time around to produce the next governor of the State. It is necessary for the region to come out en mass to suport their own.” Durunguwa appealed.
