2 Killed, Blood Flows As Fulani Youths Clash

Two people have been reported killed following a clash between Fulani youths in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Elanza News reports that several of the Fulani youths got different degrees of injuries as most of their heads and hands were matchetted during the clash. 

 

Residents say the Fulani youths that were part of the fight are in different hospitals in Mararaba following the blood that flows during the riot. 

 

Elanza News went round the hospitals in Mararaba – Messiah Hospital and Beam Clinic – where the Fulani youths were admitted, saw Policemen led by an Inspector from Police outpost Aso – A, taking the statements of the Fulani youths that were involved in the fight. 

 

It was gathered that other Fulani youths who were part of the crisis are already in the Police custody, even though with wounds, they are receiving treatment at the detention facility. 

 

Elanza News reports that about the same time last year the Fulani youths who are mostly from Rugan Duka and Rugan Sani, clashed over a girl which led to the killing of one person. 

 

“They have been fighting in the last five years. Last year, they fought about the same time and one person was killed while several others were taken to the hospitals as a result of cuts they received while matchetting themselves. 

 

“This year, they clash again while celebrating the Sallah over a girl. One person was killed instantly while another person who just went to plug his mobile phone at a commercial charging point and saw them matchetting themselves but asked why is it that as brothers they keep fighting themselves,  he was matchetted to dead, making the number of persons that died during the clash to two.

“As I speak with you, we have treated many of them that were matchetted on the heads, some were injured in their hands while one person is having a broken leg. 

 

“One of the people matchetted on the head with a deep cut, it touched the brain but he is now in stable condition,” a resident of the area working in one of the hospitals told Elanza News. 

 

One of the Fulani elders whose sister’s son had a deep cut on the head, described the incident as unfortunate. 

 

The elder said the fight has been occuring overtime but wondered why it kept persisting. 

 

Elanza News reports that one of the groups of the Fulani youths that felt cheated during the fight have vowed revenge.
